6 Spots to Avoid the Crowds Along BC Route 7

Another beautiful summer is coming to a close and as you get your last few sunny adventures in this season, you may be finding that some of your favourite spots along BC Route 7 are too busy for your liking! If you want to avoid the crowds this season and in the fall, here are a few spots that may be new to you! And better yet, we’d recommend that you visit these spots during the week to enjoy them when they’re less busy!

Coquitlam – Minnekhada Park

Forest, marshes, and rocky outcrops make this a wonderful spot to explore all year round! And if wildlife is what you’re looking for, you’re likely to have some luck here! Visiting this 200-hectare park will take you on wondrous walks along unique natural walkways and to a handful of gorgeous viewpoints such as the High Knoll Viewpoint and the Addington Lookout.

Maple Ridge – Kanaka Creek Regional Park

Kanaka Creek Regional Park is a great place to go if you are an outdoor adventurer, learner, or both! If scenery is what you’re looking for, head to the Kanaka Creek Falls area where you’ll find a network of winding trails that will take you to wondrous waterfalls. And close by, you’ll find the Kanaka Creek Watershed and Bell-Irving Hatchery which is a fun and not too busy spot in the park. Here, you can learn all about the salmon raised there and explore the educational outdoor habitat!

Mission – Sasquatch Mountain Frisbee Golf

A new experience in our area is the frisbee golf course that takes you winding through what is an exciting ski resort in the winter! With 9 holes, playing a round on this course is a great way to get active this summer and fall! And after you’ve had a fun game on the course, you can kick back and recount your favourite moments over a cold drink and delicious meal at Molly’s Bar & Grill (open on weekends)!

Agassiz & Kent – Deer Lake

Take in the lush forest, beautiful lake, and mountain view at Deer Lake! Here you can spend a day walking on the beginner level 3km interpretive trail and relaxing on the beach or stay a while in the Lakeside Campground! If you want to cool off on a warm day, jump in the lake for a swim! Or stay on the surface and do a little bit of fishing!

Harrison Hot Springs – Sasquatch Museum

Explore the Sasquatch Museum and tour through compelling artifacts, history, witness accounts, science, lore, and myths surrounding the Sasquatch! The Sasquatch is a staple of the Harrison culture, do you believe in its existence? You just might after you check out this fascinating museum!

Hope – Thacker Regional Park

A quiet spot in Hope that is just as scenic and calm as the rest of the town is Thacker Regional Park! Here you can take a leisurely walk along the trail that runs alongside Kawkawa Creek, or you can take a quick hike up the relaxing Thacker Mountain trail to admire the beautiful view of Hope and the surrounding mountains! And as our seasons change, it’s a great place to admire the lush greenery transform into a mosaic of fall colours!
